Refrigerator install finally finished!

The side panel of this had to be reordered because of a mis-cut. Apparently cabinets don't come with any instructions.

Finally managed a somewhat better picture of the granite.

Shelves are in, Refrigerator somewhat in

Here's the open shelving in the corner that was installed yesterday. I need to go buy better looking things to put on it! I just pulled some random stuff out and threw it up there. Mainly I wanted the cookbooks accessible.

The refrigerator panel is not on. When the appliance company went to install all the appliances last week, we found that this side panel should have been out 1 more inch. Well, it was pulled out by the contractor then, but time ran out and of course, their next available appointment to come back out is 9/21. So we wait... We're going to need to use a trim piece on the back since it was moved an inch or order a new side panel... sigh. And yes, one missing handle there - need to find out where they put it!

The hood is also not fully installed... making a grinding noise so we are waiting on a service call there.

We are using the kitchen now, but without working sinks... We wanted this fancy deep strainer basket to make composting easier, but turns out this thing hasn't arrived yet - 4 weeks now! I'm told Friday... maybe we'll have sinks before the weekend. It's getting old carrying dishes up and down to the laundry sink (yeah, no dishwasher yet either - it plugs into the garbage disposal plumbing).

I'm on the edge - don't make me jump!

Hobbes is 17.5 years old. He jumped onto the counters by the wall (oops, undermount sink not visible from the floor!). He then leaped the 42 inches to the island. Impressive for an old man!

Granite is in!

While we were on vacation, the granite went in. I think Dimitre at Custom Stone did an excellent job! The island is one piece. There is a 1/2" steel plate under that pop out. David test it with 2 guys standing on it. I don't think we'll have an issue :)

The biggest things left in the kitchen are backsplash, those shelves in the corner, and knobs/pulls (which would have been done already if I could make a decision!). And of course appliances - but that's the very last thing -currently scheduled for the day after Labor Day unless then get a cancellation.

Bedroom paint color

Bedroom has been painted. The color is Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments, as done by Kelly Moore (contractor gets much better price there but the BM store is a few blocks from my house so that's where I find the samples!) Floors are nearly done - I think there's some buffing left to do.

More cabinets going in pics

There's still the crown molding to get on and the toe kicks (after floors) and the refrigerator cubby to be done. The island will be reinforced too for whatever the granite guy says on Friday.

The empty place to the left of the skinny pull out pantry will be shelves. The back splash will continue up this wall both here behind the shelves and behind the cooktop. The built-in refrigerator is to the right of the pantry next to the door.

Floors

Wood floor has been in for a couple of business days now and the weekend. It is "acclimating" before it can be fully finished. We are doing top nailed white oak like the rest of this house. After the long discussions about whether the existing was red or white oak and then seeing the actual boards, I was worried that we'd picked the wrong one (one bid said red and two said white).

Finish has been applied to where the cabinets will end up sitting - cheating a bit so we can get the cabinets OUT of the living room, foyer, and dining room.

Luckily it does match the existing pretty closely (where the green towel is in the pic below).

Master bathroom tile

Tile is in and cleaned up, but not grouted yet. The grout was special order apparently. This time we're trying the QuartzLock 2 (http://www.starquartz.com/) . It's resin based and "green". Contractor did not like working with the epoxy last time and since it's a light colored tile, any issues will show.

Cabinets

Cabinets arrived yesterday. The took over 1/2 the foyer, part of the dining room, and part of the living room. David says they'll start going in tomorrow. I was happy to see the green sticker which said basically that it conforms with the CA 2012 law on formaldehyde content. These are from Aristocratic, based out of Washington state.

Bedroom windows

It was pretty difficult matching the trim with rest of the house, but I think David got it pretty close after many trips to lumber places. All of the window and door trims are done now. They will paint after the wood floors get done.

Bathroom tile

Bathroom is tiled. Needs a day to dry and then they can seal/enhance/grout. They also have the trim up on the windows. Tile is Halila Limestone. The floor has a border that has small squares of different color stone. You can't see it yet because its under that pink paper. The floor also has heating under it. There wasn't a good place to stick a heater duct without building an ugly soffit in the family room below, so we went with the heater thing under the floor tiles (it's called WarmUp Radiant Floor Heating).
